First baseman Sho Nakata, suspended indefinitely by the Nippon Ham Fighters a week after assaulting a teammate on Aug. 4, has been assigned to the Central League’s Yomiuri Giants, Hochi Shimbun reported.
According to the Nikkan Sports, Nakata worked out with the Giants Friday afternoon at Tokyo Dome ahead of their home game against the DeNA BayStars.
A former cleanup hitter for Japan’s national team, the 32-year-old Nakata has had a frustrating season in which frustrated with his play, he injured his eye after throwing his bat in the dugout and had been relegated to the farm team due to lower back trouble.
The Fighters received nothing in exchange for Nakata’s transfer, an unusual but not unique occurrence.
