NPB has 1st viral postponement

The Pacific League’s SoftBank Hawks have postponed their Aug. 2 game with the Seibu Lions after veteran outfielder Yuya Hasegawa tested positive for the novel coronavirus, the team announced Saturday.

Although Hasegawa has not been on the active roster since he was sent down on July 7, and has not had any direct contact with players or staff from the first team, the club said that a number of people with the first team make use of the farm facilities in Chikugo, Fukuoka Prefecture, and cannot rule out the possibility of transmission.

The news comes one day after the Hawks reported that a part-timer working at their home park, Fukuoka’s PayPay Dome, had tested positive.
